The way I found out it by checking voltage+ohm resistance at different temps. In your case you may have a combo of problems going on. The only thing thats changed recently is that its been getting warmer in the day. air filter, recent oil/filter change, transmission fluid change (these did not cause the problem). Ive had regular maintenance on the car, incl. he ended up cleaning up the fuel injector. The day i brought it to the mechanic, he didnt get the problem after driving around a bit. happens in reverse gear too, but doesnt seem to happen in neutral or park (in neutral, the car idles at around 900 rpm). This sometimes happens many times in a row, and then sometimes i dont get it, but its always in idle.
During that time, the tach will momentarily jump from about ~700 to ~900 rpm. during idle, the engine will sometimes shudder momentarily, for about a split second. Recently my car (2000 c230k, 102k miles) has started idling funny.
